On one of my visits to Punjab, our guide
had mentioned if we would like to visit a heritage hotel in Anandpur Sahib and
could plan a stay there? We were pretty okay to check out the place at least,
maybe we could get the desired stay we were looking for, and until now I still
feel worthy of spending all the time and money in Anand at the Satluj, a
beautiful and soul-seeking farm stay in Punjab. Deserted in the holy town of
Sri Anandpur, on the banks of river Satluj, this resort was built by the
successor of the last ruling family of Anandpur Sahib. This was when I visited
Anandpur Sahib for the very first time and it beyond doubt was a relishing
experience. Not just the location of stay, but even the aura of it was so
soothing and perfect that it seemed I was back in my childhood days roaming
around freely in the village. So here, you find influences from the tradition
and royalty of Punjab’s art and culture with a blend of the local tastes, the
monumentous design of the resort and the peace-loving environment.
My stay at this jewel resort near
Amritsar, Anand at the Satluj, a heritage resort built by Sodhi
Vikram Singh may not be the famous tourist destination or an ideal holiday
spot, but with its enchanting beauty and attractive activities, it is in itself
an exploring camp near Chandigarh. Positioned in the middle of farms supporting
greenery all around, the property is well-laid and highly chains the rich Sikh
tradition. A stopover en route Dharamshala and Manali, it’s located at a pretty
good place and definitely is the best resort near Chandigarh, considering its
accessibility with almost an hours’ drive.
Stay in Anand
Satluj
As has been mentioned, the location of the hotel is not a hyped-up touristy spot, but definitely, there is going to be a lot of fun inside the resort itself. The activities are plentiful to engage you and your family and the super gracious staff and super hosts Vikram and Sumathy Sodhi made it a memorable stay! It’s like a classic stroll in the villages where you only want to sprint away from the hush of city life. Needless to say, you can easily expend quality time spending a few days discovering the hidden gems around and pay a visit to the heritage of the Sikh community. But your finest experience would be taking a walk around the area; the hotel staff is pretty cooperative and helpful and will guide you throughout the location and nearby places that can be visited.
The property has airy, well-lit
and spacious rooms built
according to the heritage culture of the region. The subtle dash of colors used
along with the perfect design renders a comfortable stay in the hotel. The
rooms were provided with adequate facilities and cheerful staff to accompany
all the guests all along the trip. The quality of sleep was no doubt defining
the level of service the hotel provides to its guests.
How’s the food at Anand @ Satluj?
The meals offered at the resort were
tasteful enough for someone to actually keep licking their fingers and dwell in
the mouth-watering food provided in their restaurant, in addition to a curated
legacy walk to the community around! Surprisingly, while in conversation with
the chef, we discovered that all the food that was served was organic and was
prepared with freshly plucked vegetables from the local farm. The food choices
are definitely influenced by the local Punjabi tastes and other North India
cuisines, the locally grown vegetables served with delectable paranthas was an
added flavor.
What to do in and around Anand @ Satluj?
The highlight of the stay unquestionably
are the hotel activities that
included playing snooker, heritage walk to the Satluj river, indoor board
games, cycling sessions, yoga conducted by the hotel staff and even occasional
celebrations at the hotel. The view during the sunset is so pretty that no
pictures do justice to the level of beauty it offers to your eyes and it’s
pretty much a possibility that no better location would have provided such a
mesmerizing view clubbed with such warm hospitality. The planned guide tours
and the involvement of the localites was heart- touching and has obliged me to
plan my next stay here itself! A local visit to the nearby temples
with fulfilling chants going on is like a relaxing therapy session anyone could
ask for.
Here’s a quick list of places along with
the local markets to visit around this hotel in Anandpur Sahib.
1. Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib
2. Virasat-e-Khalsa
3. Gurudwara Kila Anandgarh
Sahib
4. Bhakra Nangal Dam
5. Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib
6. One can also visit Manali
and Dharamshala, just half-a-day away for an amazing driving experience to a hill
station around Punjab.
All in all, my stay and trip in Anandpur
Sahib was a memorable one, loaded with amazing experiences, moments and
ultimate relaxation clubbed with a lot of love from Punjab.
